To Be Alone Today

Thatcher LaPrise

To be alone today

Is something so much different than it used to be

It’s to be able to talk to anyone

Be held by no one, to feel no touch

There is always something to do

But there you are, sitting there doing nothing

The world is at your fingertips

Yet you are on a world of your own

You feel so empty, without there being everyone there to fill you up

Even meaningless gestures

They now mean so much to you

Having no one

In a world where there has been no one there for you for years

Just these past few weeks

So much has changed

Yet does your soul feel any different

You have not grown

You will not learn

You are stuck in a spiral

With no motivation to succeed

With nothing to succeed at

To be alone today

Means you are not even there for yourself
