Eighth Graders Entering High School

Rosie Saccarado

It is the end of the school year which means the time has come for students to move onward in their lives. Some are moving on from high school and some are just about to start their high school journey.

Eighth grade students are about to become high schoolers–which is a huge step. High school means more class options and opportunities that students do not have in middle school or elementary school. Tristan Prescott, an eighth-grader, says, “I am excited for the opportunities and figuring out what I want to do in the future, and picking classes according to that.” In high school, it's time to start thinking about what you want to do in the future, like whether or not you want to go to college, a trade school, or start your own business. High school also has more clubs and groups to partake in. This way, students are able to branch out, participate, and connect with students who are interested in similar topics. Marlayna King says she is a little nervous because of “the workload, and that [her] grades will start to matter a little more because of colleges looking at them.” She’s right! This is definitely the time to take school a little more seriously.

Although high school is a lot of fun, it also means leaving behind your favorite teachers and the memories. Both Marlayna and Tristan agreed that they will miss their middle school teachers the most. Tristan explains, “They are really easy to talk to and they are always there for you if you have a problem.” Starting a new chapter of your life can be a little intimidating and scary at first, but the opportunity to make new memories, learn new things and bond with teachers is still there. High school is a great time to start thinking about what you want to do, try new things and take new classes, and make more memories!
