In Australia there has been an outburst of fires recently. “As of 14 January 2020, fires this season have burned an estimated 18.6 million hectares (46 million acres; 186,000 square kilometres; 72,000 square miles), destroyed over 5,900 buildings (including 2,779 homes) and killed at least 34 people”. (source ) Since September alone, 25 people have died and thousands have been left homeless. The fires started due to numerous reasons, some being it being fire season down in Australia, lighting strikes, an accidental spark, the dry sprout. However, some of the fires are assumed to be started deliberately, 24 people have been arrested for the start of the fires this season. Thousands of volunteers and civilians fleeing the area have rescued the animals, so far 800 million animals have died due to the fires in New South Wales. The fires are being put out by unpaid firefighters (some from the US), police officers, military and navy personnel.
You're probably asking yourself how you can help. Even living in Vermont, there are numerous ways to support Australia, such as ableas being able to donate money, items, and adopt an animal to get them into a safe space.
